Crane Operations: Steps we take to ensure safety!

When it comes to crane operations, safety is our number one priority at American Erecting and Iron Works. We have high standards during our hiring and training processes to ensure that everyone involved is qualified to finish the job without any accidents! We are fully NCCCO Certified and take extra precautions with every one of our heavy lifts! Accidents can happen quickly, which is why we stop and evaluate every factor that can come into play with each lift. Here are a few of the steps we take to ensure everyone on site, both your team and ours, is prepared for the crane services:

  1. We always make sure that we have the correct equipment. This is the most important step to ensure safety. Without the proper equipment, corners have to be cut and things can go south quickly.
  2. We check the weather. This can vary based on what we’re moving, but we always check the weather to make sure that the conditions are appropriate for that specific move. If the weather isn’t cooperating, we unfortunately have to reschedule for a better day. We never like doing that, but safety comes first!
  3. We inspect and maintain our equipment. A lot… Before every lift we check out each part of the crane to ensure that it is functioning properly.
  4. We keep our team refreshed on safety standards. Our training doesn’t stop. Ever. From our most seasoned operator to our newest, each is constantly staying up to date on new protocols to keep things running smoothly.
  5. We know our equipment. We may not read our manuals when putting together a desk for our office, but you bet we do when we get a new piece of equipment. That’s right, we read the manuals. From cover to cover. Every piece of equipment is a little different and we want to make sure that we know the exact way to operate that specific crane.
  6. We keep things organized. From making plans to our worksite, every aspect of our lifts are well thought out so that there are no surprises during the actual lift. That means keeping the path of the crane clear of obstacles, people, and debris as well as making sure that we have the correct equipment and accessories prior to arriving that day!
  7. We take our time. We understand that time is of the essence with your worksites and we absolutely do our best to get things done quickly, but we are going to take whatever time we need to get things done right and safely to prevent injuries and accidents!
  8. We don’t cut corners. Even if we think everything will work out fine, we still take our time to complete each lift “by the books.” While “work smarter not harder” is valid in most cases, we choose to work safer. Even if that means taking extra steps.
  9. We rig and stabilize the load correctly. A big part of our training is making sure that the load is on the equipment correctly to prevent slipping or dropping. It’s a very delicate process that we take very seriously at American Erecting and Ironworks.
  10. We communicate and pay attention. This is the only way to prevent accidents on a worksite any day, not just while our cranes are there! We communicate with your people and ours to ensure everything is in place before taking any next steps.

These are just a few of the many practices we have in place to ensure the safety of our team, your team, and your materials that we are working with. While it may take a little longer, we’d rather take an extra hour getting everything perfect than drop a load and have something break or have another unfortunate event happen at any of our sites.

We promise that we will only provide you with the highest quality crane operations so that your job is done correctly and safely the first time so there are no delays in your build! We have experience working with many different pieces of equipment including

  • Trusses
  • HVAC Units
  • Tanks

  • Modular Homes
  • Boats
  • Machinery

  • And so much more.
